Stellantis FPW Engine Oil Specifications: A Unified Approach

David De Mesmaeker 11 June 2026 Automotive

Stellantis has introduced the FPW 9.55535/xx series to unify the engine oil specifications across its brands—Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Fiat, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and others. This system replaces the variety of legacy PSA, FCA, Opel/Vauxhall, and GM specs with a single, structured family of standards for both service and factory fill oils. It’s a move driven by the need for clarity, consistency, and compliance with evolving performance and emissions standards.

Why a Unified Specification?

Legacy specifications varied significantly between Stellantis’ constituent brands. PSA used the B71 series, Opel used GM-LL and Dexos specs, and FCA had its own 9.55535 codes. The FPW system harmonizes these under one umbrella, reducing complexity for workshops and suppliers. These new specs incorporate updated industry sequences (ACEA 2023, API SP/GF-6) and Stellantis-specific tests to ensure higher durability, lower emissions system wear, and improved fuel efficiency.

Core FPW Specifications: 01, 02, 03

FPW 9.55535/01 (0W-20):

Low-viscosity, low-SAPS oil for new gasoline and diesel engines with GPF/DPF. Replaces PSA B71 2010 and FCA DM1. Built around ACEA C5/C6 with added timing chain and LSPI protection.

FPW 9.55535/02 (0W-30):

Mid-SAPS 0W-30 for fuel-efficient diesel and gasoline engines with aftertreatment systems. Replaces PSA B71 2312 and various FCA/Opel equivalents. Aligns with ACEA C2 plus Stellantis-specific piston and turbo deposit requirements.

FPW 9.55535/03 (5W-30):

Mid-SAPS 5W-30 for most modern Stellantis engines. Introduced after timing belt wear issues in PureTech engines. Replaces PSA B71 2290/2297, FCA S1/S3, and Opel Dexos2. Built on ACEA C3 with reinforced LSPI, wear, and soot handling capabilities.

Implementation Timeline

The rollout follows two key milestones:
– January 2026: FPW/01, /02, /03 become the official service and factory fill specs.
– July 2026: All legacy PSA, FCA, and Opel specifications are deactivated.

Notably, FPW/03 was required earlier for engines affected by timing belt issues. Oils must be reapproved to the latest spec indices by mid-2026 to retain Stellantis approval status.

Transitional Placeholder Specs

Several interim FPW specs were used during development, including FPW 9.55535/DH1, /G1, /GSX, /M2, /N2, /S1, /S2, /T2, and /Z2. These are no longer valid for new approvals and will be fully retired by mid-2026.

What This Means for Formulators and Workshops

Oil blenders must prepare for Stellantis’ updated requirements, which go beyond standard ACEA/API sequences and include proprietary tests. Q8 has aligned its formulations accordingly, based on legacy spec coverage and FPW performance targets. Workshops should monitor updates to technical datasheets and rely on product recommendations aligned with current and upcoming Stellantis applications.

Conclusion

The FPW series simplifies oil specification across Stellantis brands, while setting a higher technical bar. Clear timelines are in place, and compliance will be essential. For lubricant professionals and workshops, preparing now ensures alignment with Stellantis’ evolving requirements and supports proper engine protection and specification coverage as the FPW transition progresses.
